3 Amazingly Simple Ways To Keep Visitors On Your Blog Longer

There are two ways to get more production out of your blog: increase your blog traffic and get more out of the visitors you already have.

Ideally, you want to improve both. But since the topic of blog traffic has been covered a bajillion times (guilty!), I’ll show you what I do to keep visitors on my blog longer.

What are the benefits to keeping your visitors longer on your blog?

Well, the more blog posts they read, the faster a relationship can be established. Remember, they’re reading what you think, and how you run your business. The more posts they look at, the better they’ll get to know and trust you.

Plus, the longer they are on your blog, the more opportunity they have to opt-in to your list. They may arrive at your site and decide not to immediately opt-in. But, 10 minutes and 5 blog posts later, they may decide that they like what you have to say and want to get your free offer.

Basically, the key is you want them to get lost on your blog! You want so many places for them to click to read other blog posts that they keep navigating your site for as long as possible.

It’s like the furniture store Ikea. It’s actually designed specifically to keep you in there as long as possible. It’s hard to find a way out unless you’ve seen pretty much everything in the store! Design your blog so that visitors have a “hard” time leaving.

So, here are my 3 favorite ways to get my visitors to stay longer on my blog:

#1 “Related Posts Thumbnails” Plug-in

At the end of each of my posts, you can see several links to other posts within my blog. They each have a little description and a picture.

This one little plug-in is the biggest reason my readers jump to other blog posts because it’s so easy to see other topics related to the one they just read. I’ve had several people tell me that they see those little thumbnails and they just keep clicking on new posts over and over again!

#2 “Popularity Contest” Plug-in

On my sidebar, there is a list of 5 blog posts with percentages next to them. Honestly, I’m not sure exactly what the percentages mean or how they are figured, but those are supposedly the most popular posts that I’ve written.

This lets readers see what other readers are reading. It gives a little “social proof” as to which blog posts are worth their time to check out.

#3 Links To Other Blog Posts

This is a very simple one… All you have to do is reference another blog post on your site and put a link for it!

Not only does this give another easy opportunity for your reader to jump to another blog post, but it also creates a backlink to that post.

Basically, the more backlinks you have to a post, the more King Google likes it and puts it higher on the search results.

As you can see, all 3 of these tips are so simple that you can implement them in the next 5 minutes, but I’ve seen tremendous results. I’ve had people tell me they read 10 blog posts before they contacted me!
